Bold and Beautiful: Trying The Matte Lip Trend

Matte lipsticks and colours have been all over Instagram for a while. Whilst gloss has a strong sheen, and lipstick generally looks creamy, this lip colour looks flat and matte, but in a good way.

For some reason, I felt like as much as I liked this trend that I wasn’t sure that it would work for me. But… Well, you know I love products, so I picked up two matte lip colours. One is from Too Faced, their famous Melted Matte range and one from high street brand Sleek. Both times I thought they were a rosey tone, and each one turned out to be a dark plum. I think if you’re buying, test the colours carefully and go a shade lighter.

Matte lips are fairly long wearing. They go on like a liquid or like a gloss but then dry and set to a matte colour. I like that about them. They’re a little harder to remove than usual lip colours, and I found that they feel a bit sticky, like they stick to each other. They dried my lips out a little too. But all in all, I kind of like them.

You get a really rich, thick and uniform colour with these. And honestly, the one from Sleek was almost as nice as the one from Too Faced, so you don’t have to break the budget to try something new.

The two shades I tried are: Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick in Bend & Snap £19 (more fuschia) and Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Velvet Slipper (darker berry) 4.99.

The cute cherry print peasant blouse in this shoot is just a cheapie from Primark, worn as asymmetrical top. Enamel earrings from a selection at Camden Market, London.

Have you tried these or another matte lipstick? Did you love them or hate them? Any tips about using these? Or favourite shades? I’d love to know! Leave a comment below.
