Style Talk: A look at Michael Kors Spring Collection with Vogue Magazine.

Earlier this week, British Vogue hosted a style talk by Kate Phelan, a contributing editor and stylist, at Michael Kors Regent St store, which I was excited to be invited to. Kate Phelan is a power player in the fashion industry, and it was wonderful to hear her talk through the Spring collection from this American designer. I wanted to share some of the looks with you that I loved, and what is on my wish list.

The dress above can be worn as seen, styled as a dress, but also thrown on as a coat to create soft layers. The fabric feels quite strong, and yet really soft and draping. I love the 80’s, Cold War spy movie vibes.

This handbag is the It bag of this season, and comes in two sizes and a range of fabrics and colours. I think it looks really smart but also practical. I also love that block feels are in this season, as they’re so wearable and practical, but still look polishes. These have a bow detail over the toe, which I liked too. It feels a bit classic or vintage, but totally updated.

Pink back in again this Spring, which is exciting to me. Michael Kors are doing a lot of separates that you can mix up to create different looks and layers, and deal with those in between weather days too. I love the range of pink, which is quite rosy but not too girly, especially with the asymmetrical and handkerchief cuts and in prints. This range has some nice details on the sleeves, with little ties and things. I loved this soft cashmere sweater, but you can also throw a nice, boyfriend style blazer over the top in white, as Phelan pointed out.

Pastels in pink, blue and lavender were strong players that I loved in this collection. They’re so easy to dress up or down, but also feel positive. You can mix them or go for one colour over all, which is cute. I really like this light tweed coat, with it’s distresses edges. It feels kind of elegant but without trying to hard.

Again, these shoes, this time in white. I can’t decide if I like the black or the white better? There was also a theme of soft shadows of palm leaves wafting over the prints for Michael Kors this season.

This picture doesn’t do the dress justice. Part of the collection for evening, though as Phelan pointed out, we live in a time where you can wear sequins to the gym, this dress was perfect. It’s sequined pattern seems to glow, and shines but isn’t garish. The skirt floats softly, and with the way the dress looks see through, but has a demure neckline, it’s sexy without being obvious. I loved this dress.

A close up of the sequins, so you can see the leaf shapes. Such a wonderful idea, and so beautifully executed.

Cut outs are also still in this season. This one perhaps requires a flat stomach, but I loved it on the model, who looked chic and comfortable. The dress has a subtle shimmer to it, which adds a nice level of shone for evening.

It was incredible to listen to Kate Phelan talk about fashion and about this collection. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, and passionate about her subject, so everything she had to say was interesting, but she’s also very down to earth and welcoming. I really liked her, and I’d love to go to more of her talks. Highly recommended, if you get the chance to attend an event she speaks at, definitely go.

I haven’t included everything from the collection, just the looks that were highlights for me. My top favorite, on my wish list now, item is this cute handbag in white. I saw the model carrying it and fell in love. In this smaller size, it is designed to hold loads, but isn’t over sized. I just love it.

I also love the sequined palm print. In this dress, with spaghetti straps and on white, so it’s not sheer like the above, I feel like this version is really wearable and simple for someone with more curves (that is, me! No high necklines when you have a bust!) So beautiful and flattering.

Kate Phelan was so lovely to let me take a picture with her. She was so approachable and natural. A very genuine and fascinating person.

I had such a great time at this event. Thank you so much British Vogue for inviting me and hosting the event. Thank you Kate Phelan for being weirded out by me asking to take my pic with her. And finally, thank you Michael Kors for having me and sharing your gorgeous Spring collection. So many beautiful pieces, I felt so inspired after attending. And I reeeeeally want that beautiful white handbag…

If you’d like to take a look at the collection yourself, head to Michael Kors. If you’re a fan of fashion, I highly recommend subscribing to British Vogue, or signing up for their mailing list.
