The Natural Look: MOTD & Review of new Rimmel London Match Perfection And Stay Matte Lipstick

Being a pale girl, I used to find it hard to find foundation and concealer that looked natural and matched my lighter skin tone. Rimmel London has always done makeup for lighter complexions, and now they have a new range of foundations and concealers that match 99% of skin tones. Match Perfection takes inspiration from London’s multicultural inhabitants, and I was lucky enough to be sent a complimentary set to try out and review.

For me, having makeup that’s the right shade and looks like I’m not wearing any foundation is what is important. I don’t like a caked on look at all, and think enhancing what you have naturally is the best thing. This foundation is fairly light in consistency. Rimmel says that it’s a medium coverage, but I think it’s slightly on the thinner side, but is buildable to medium. For those of you who like full coverage, this one probably isn’t for you. I liked that it blended easily and did adapt to my skin tone after application. It has SPF20, and doesn’t dry out my skin at all. It feels breathable and like you’re not wearing any foundation. The concealer is also a little thin, but really does cover dark circles and blemishes. In all, I’m happy with it, and would recommend it, especially if you’re a girl who finds it hard to get a foundation in your shade, as this range is wide and should include you! However, it’s medium coverage on the thinner, lighter side, which might not be for everyone.

If you’re enjoying the natural looks and the matte lips that are still in this season, Rimmel’s new Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colours (£5.99) should be on your to buy list. They come in a beautiful range of shades, but 7 new nude shades have been released to go with the new Match Perfection range. I’m wearing Be My Baby (Pictured), but I was also sent Stripped (a paler nude) and Plunge (a darker shade). I have to say, these are amazing! They apply easily and the shades are really flattering and easy to wear. But unlike a lot of matte lipsticks, they are really moisturizing and soft. Your lips won’t be flakey or dry out. They also last and last, which meant that with one application I was able to eat, sip coffee and kiss my boyfriend without losing colour. I’m a fan!

The foundation is the usual pump bottle that you’d expect, but happily it dispenses a small amount at a time, so there’s not loads of wastage. The concealer is soft plastic, with a handy brush applicator tip. I wasn’t sure about using it at first because I have my own brushes, but it’s actually really handy and easy to use. The Stay Matte lipsticks are in a lip gloss style tube, and have a neat little click when you twist them closed. You could definitely use a lip brush to apply these, but the tips are soft and a nice tapered shape which made application simple and easy.

Rimmel London is one of those great brands that creates products that work hard for you, but are not at a high price point. They’re innovative and also inclusive, and I really like that. If you’d like to try this look for yourself look for Match Perfection, Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation  £8 at Superdrug (you may find it for less at other retailers, but as it’s new not all of them have it in stock yet) I’m wearing shade in 81 Fair Ivory. Also, Rimmel Match Perfection Skin Tone Adapting Concealer £6.50 at Superdrug (again, I think it will retail for less at other stores once in stock) I’m wearing shade 101 Porcelain. My caramel chunky knit is a soft old favourite from Boohoo.com, and eyeshadow is from my Too Faced Peach Palette.

Thank you Rimmel London for the complimentary items for review. Have you tried any of these items? Have any great natural makeup tips? Do you find it hard to get the right foundation shade? Let me know in the comments section below. You can also find me on Instagram @hermioneflavia
