This book from Gabrielle Moss explores the huge selling phenomenon that was book series for kids and teens in the 80’s and 90’s. Books like RL Stine’s Goosebumps, The Babysitters Club and The Saddle Club were hugely popular, long running series with little gimmicks that sold like hot cakes, targeting a previously untapped market, essentially creating the YA genre. These books were a huge success and often dismissed by parents and librarians as cheap and not having literary merit, but now that that generation has grown up, those books are experiencing a renaissance of interest from those who grew up with them, and some of these series are still in print today.

I have such fond memories of some of these books and also there are many that I hadn’t read before, so this book my Gabrielle Moss has become one of my favourite little nostalgia trips to dip into. It’s also the subject of the video below, and the first in a series of videos on these books series and other books that you used to find at the Scholastic Book Fair at school.
