Winter Warmer OOTD: A Tartan Shirt-Dress and Red Lips.

Winter fashion can sometimes feel like a bit of an oxymoron to me. When you have to layer up all the time just to stay warm, you can end up feeling like the Michelin man, which is not exactly sexy. But even in a cold climate, your look doesn’t have to be utilitarian. And it can be fun to snuggle up in warm colours and cuddly textures.  With tea. Lots of tea.

Whether you call it tartan, plaid or check, a classic shirtdress in reds and dark blues makes for comfortable base layer. And the warm shades feel oh so cosy. You can pick up one like this at H&M, Primark and New Look, as well as loads of other stores. Or you could always steal your boyfriends shirt, and just say it’s a dress…

Make sure you have a defined waist with a leather belt (mine’s vintage 80’s courtesy of my mother’s wardrobe). A satchel from The Cambridge Satchel Company (they have a huge range of shades, and all excellent quality) is a classic and very useful accessory. Get yours HERE from around £150.

These new boots from Dorothy Perkins have a suede feel, with a mid heel in back but enough grip in the front to get you through snow days in style. I cannot believe how comfy they are! I’m pairing them with everything. Including these white cable knit tights that are super warm and cosy.

Long hair? Make sure you keep it extra conditioned in winter as the cold weather  and air conditioning are so harsh. I like to oil mine once a week to keep it healthy.

Winter and in my case extra pale skin means that a little heavier makeup is just the thing. In this case, I paired a brown smokey eye with a rich red lipstick from Guerlian. Want to try it yourself? You’ll need these items below.

Lip stick in 21 Gala from Guerlain (It has a built in mirror and is so creamy, to die for)

Lipliner in 021 Red Dynamite from Rimmel (lip liner is a must with lips this bold)

Eyeshadow Quad in 515 Adventurous from Revlon (shades of brown with a bit of khaki, so flattering)

Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara by Loreal (huge lashes!)

Style this look with a chocolate knit pom pom hat from New Look and vintage butter-soft leather gloves.
