Recently when I was thrifting, I picked up an old school View-Master for $5cad. I had one when I was a kid, and just thought it would be nice to have it on a shelf. But when I posted about it on Instagram and talked to friends, they all were so unthused and nostalgic, I suddenly really wanted some reels for it.

I headed to eBay and found a Canadian seller who had some fun reels. I always liked the Disney or Muppet ones, so I ended up picking up The Aristocats, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, a really old one with horses and one that’s a Benji movie. I loved dog movies when I was a kid. It was a fun rabbit hole to go down. Some reels are really expensive, which I wasn’t expecting. But the View-Master came out way earlier than I thought, in the late 30s or early 40s, and were sometimes used by traveling salesmen to sell products or a lot of the time as a travel souvenir. So that was a whole history rabbit hole I went down. The View Master itself has changed shape over time, but interestingly, the reels haven’t which means all reels fit all viewers.

I’d really like some 80s cartoon ones, I saw My Little Pony reels and Princess of Power. But I’m not going to go nuts collecting these. At least I don’t think I am…. Ha ha!

The other thing this week is that Im wearing a new lipstick. I was kind of saving it for going out, but I could be waiting a while for that! It’s a Besame one, and they did meticulous research in the Disney archives to get the exact shade of Sleeping Beauty’s lips to create an anniversary collection. I love the dreamy, fairytale packaging. I love Aurora. And I love that Besame lipsticks are soft, creamy and last. My lips feel better for wearing them, honestly. I don’t know if they still have this shade, but I really love it. It’s a rosy shade, but not too pink, natural but not nude, not too natural. So happy.

It’s one of my all time favourite lipsticks now. Which is saying something. It’s a little thing, but I think sometimes little things, like a new lipstick or a fun nostalgia trip, are big things really. They can lift our mood or make us feel hopeful, make us laugh… I don’t know. Little things are big things I guess. And that’s me this and what I’m enjoying this week!
