In this coming of age story, Miriam, a young Jewish girl, discovers her love of painting, and follows her heart, from Romania to Israel to the US. Starting in the 1950's, in a politically hostile Romania, the story is as much about finding our place in the world, especially as an immigrant, as it is …

A house made of glass, a boy whose father can't love him, a woman who finds love too late. Alice Hoffman writes about love and loss, with a hint of magic, in a way that no one else can. Her books feel like modern fairy tales, and they're always moving and a bit different. Orphaned …
Perhaps Hoffman's most well known book, and made into a film back in the 90's starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, this book tells the story of the Owens sisters and their peculiar family. This is one of my very favourite books by Hoffman, and her most magical. Following the death of their parents, two …
The designs on the covers of this book (there are two, one for the character Bea and one for Peter) are very beautiful, and having read the authors incredible book The Crimson Petal And The White, I expected big things. One of Hoffman's earlier books, it follows three generations of a family, from the strong Russian matriarch that has managed their lives and finances with an iron fist, to the grandaughter who longs for freedom and to follow …
A loose, modern retelling of Wuthering Heights, Alice Hoffman brings her magic touch to another book. March Murray returns home for a funeral with her teenage daughter in tow, leaving her loving husband behind. But her old life casts a spell over her, returning her to former days, and most importantly, old loves. When she …
A lovely book from the author of River King and Practical Magic, this book is a coming of age story about two girls as they navigate life, love tragedy, and becoming adults. Narrated by the sharp witted Gretel, the book tells of the break up of her parents marriage, her mother and cousins search for …
This beautiful, sorrowful book tells the story of a man raised by wolves, and the woman that rescues him when he's taken into the mental health system. Robin is still reeling from her split from her philandering cop husband and starting over with her teenage son in their home town, when she happens one day …
